Im looking to shop around for cars pretty soon and looking for a fresh new economic car thats good on gas and can get the best bang for my buck
any recommandations
Honda FIT, Top rated, cheap to buy, great reliability, top safety rating, great gas mileage and has the best resale value of the small cars. Everything you said you want!
What do you mean by economic cars? Cars are divided in categories like midsize sedan, compact sedan/hatchback, subcompact, or micro compact. I personally wouldn't recommend vehicles in the last two groups listed. I'm guessing you mean compacts. The selection is wide and with good quality depending on what you want from a car. Chevy Cruze, Ford Focus, Dodge Dart, Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Nissan Sentra, Mazda3, Subaru Impreza, Hyundai Elantra, Kia Forte, Mitsubishi Lancer, and VW Jetta. I'd steer clear of the Lancer and Dart. Some are more fuel efficient than others. Some are faster than others. Some offer a sporty handling while others offer a comfortable handling. Some have big interior room while others have very little rear seat room. Some start at a low price but quickly rises in price with most common options. You have to look at them, test drive them, and decide what it is you want in a car. I bought a 2015 Hyundai Elantra. For ME, it offered the best balance for my needs.

Pretty much I want to pay the least amount for the maximum amount of a car like maybe 10k or 15k somewhere there while still having a good reasonable car least insurance cost gas cost least car repairs
The Honda Fit i think is good no? or like maybe the Hyuadai Elantra
I wouldn't mind spending a couple more like 16 or 17k

Depreciation can outstrip gas costs on many models. Why is that not a factor?

In that price range for new you should look to subcompacts. They include Honda Fit, Nissan Versa or Versa Note (the Note is hatchback),Toyota Yaris, Ford Fiesta, Chevy Sonic, Hyundai Accent, Kia Rio, or Mitsubishi Mirage. Most are available in sedan, but all available in hatchback.
Buy year old used Prius C and be happy. Heck, for $15 000 cash you can even find a year old Prius V. THEN gas costs will have a lot of weight to put into as you tank what - once a month?
Forgot to add that you could check a new Scion model iA, it's a sedan version of the outgoing Mazda2. You can probably find a Mazda2, but it's not even on Mazda's website anymore. The Mitsubishi Mirage and the Nissan Versa are about the cheapest cars you can buy brand new. The Mirage is a fuel efficient 3 cylinder while the Versa is a 4 cylinder.
Got a garage? Got a round trip of less than 40 miles? Don't carry more than 3 passengers?
If the answer is yes, then pre-owned Chevy Volt.
Lightly used ones are DIRT CHEAP and you will use little to no gas.
With a new one right around the corner, they are the #1 raging used car bargain right now.
