Gosh, my car is worth less than $8000 now, and it was nearly $50k new. 2006 Infiniti M35x with 98,000 miles, and practically all the technology you get with the latest models -- voice-controlled navigator, satellite radio, back-up camera, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, heated/cooled leather seats in the front. New Michelins all around about 6 months ago.

I can not imagine what would make that Lincoln worth as much as mine, which actually even has quite a roomy back seat. Mine has been pretty much problem-free; are Lincolns known for excellent reliability?

Yep.

Older Lincolns/Mercurys aren't worth much, even if they were nice cars.

If it was in mint condition, garage kept, one owner with every factory option, had a complete record of every factory recommended maintenance completed and had 50,000 miles or less I still wouldn't pay more than $6,000 for it.

And that's on the generous side.

A 15 year old luxury car is no longer a luxury car. Base models have better features. Buy a lightly used entry level car and enjoy.

My Dad, a Auto Dealership owner, told me often, ''Son, Fools, they are born everyday and they never die.''

Some on this Auto Forum prove Dad's wisdom a sad fact.

Your '06 Infiniti must be a wreck now, pal?!!

Lincolns are perhaps the most dependable in reliability of any American made auto in last 60 years.

The Cops Nationwide all use the FORD Cruisers, basically the same car as the LTC.

400,000 miles dependability typically, and Cops drive them harder than anyone.

I once asked my mechanic friend what car I should get. His answer was "get what you like, you can fix everything else".

Since obviously you like the car, get it. If you like it and you can afford it, then why not? If it costs too much or too little, that's got nothing to do as to if you like the car or not. This is the sort of car you pay cash for anyway, so it's not like there'd be payments or anything. Considering how much less expensive it is than to buy new, even if you pay too much for it, you'll still save tons over buying new.

I wouldn't call that a nice car... It's the epitome of 80s-90s American garbage. The platform dates to the 70s. It's huge but not spacious inside, horrible fuel economy. I'd pay maybe $1000

Oh, for 8,000 you can find lots of old, well cared for cars with low miles.

Right, and you sir can go find him if you look above the sink in the men's room.

What's your problem? YOu don't like what everyone else is telling you, therefore the are wrong. Are you trying to convince yourself you got a GREAT deal instead of a good one?

Thanks !!

You, Hot Cat, are the first to discern my thought process. Not sure any other ..uh, hmm, Expert genius'es care about the issue...Why I posted about the LTC, Here.

The point is, this LTC is as soild, Classy, car as ANY of the $10,000 or $15,000 K Rides you can find.

I couldn't care LESS about what it's worth...or it's current Retail value. The car is like Good Wine....SO FINE!!

Real car salesmen want to make as much bank on their sales while consumers have the complete opposite incentive. You are a consumer, yet you wanna show off that a Town Car is even worth 8000. Even Kelley Blue Book's suggested dealer pricing for the Cartier edition comes out to $2500-3500 at 117,000. Fact is that Panthers are NOT hot used commodities and they can be bought cheap.

You can buy more car with 8000. Say a Lexus LS-series.
