Narrowed down the cars I'm interested in to these two (2014-2016). I like the looks and how they both drive. Anyone have experience with either one of these vehicles? Just curious how they have performed for you and how reliable they are.
I'd go with a well optioned Optima over the Fusion. I own a 2009 Ford Fusion and when I was looking into the 2013+ cars I found that they had various reliability issues. My coworker ended up getting rid of his and going with an Accord. I like the looks of the Optima although its been on the market for a few years now so I'm assuming a replacement isn't too far away.
I would stick with the 2010-2012 V6 Fusions they really hit the mark with long term reliability, very respectable fuel economy, luxury car levels of comfort and decent performance (esp. with the 2010-2012 3.5L V6 263HP AWD "Sport" Version)
I own a 2013 Fusion and most likely not buy another one, I would still prefer it over the Optima. On the Fusion, I dislike the clunky transmission and the steering that feels like the it has lost power at higher speeds. Plus 3 recalls that still need to be addressed.
I purchased a 2014 Ford Fusion SE Hybrid in June 2014. 15 months and 21,000 miles later I am very pleased with this car and would definitely buy it again. I have been in for scheduled maintenance twice and I have experienced zero issues with the car while averaging over 38 MPG.
If I were shopping for a regular gas powered model then I would look for an SE with the 2.0 EcoBoost or a Titanium, which comes standard with the 2.0. I think the other engines are a bit under-powered.
I've had over twenty new cars over the years and the 2011 Hyundai Sonata is the most reliable car we have ever owned with zero problems. And the company communication and dealer interaction has been notably good.
The Fords I have owned have been OK but not without problems. Have had frustrating problems with new cars from BMW, Infinity, Honda, and VW so the Hyundai / Kia experience has really impressed me.
We bought a '15 Optima about three months ago, so far we love it, nothing against Fords, our last three cars were Fords, we just got more for our money with the Optima. Dollar for dollar, we got the options we wanted, the dealer covers everything for the first two years, then KIA (Hyundai) covers drive train for 10years/100K miles, on top of better incentives (in June/July). It rides nice, comfy, has plenty of power to get up and go, looks good, and it's made in the USA.
The
Fusion was a good car when it was a Mazda design built in Mexico. Now it is a Detroit design built by UAW members.
