Look at the bright side now they can build a modern bridge with a much higher weight limit and no height restriction, paid for by the insurance company.
Some driver did this in Milwaukee last year on a park pedestrian bridge over a huge ravine. Somehow he drove into this huge lakefront park, followed a bike/pedestrian trail that is obviously NOT a road, proceeded to squeeze his truck over the bridge--which somehow didn't collapse--and then got stuck on a peninsula of land between ravines and another pedestrian bridge, behind a lighthouse.
That driver blamed GPS, because apparently he didn't realize that the GPS was taking him down a bike trail, or that the bridge 1 foot wider than his truck was not a problem. And the same guy ran over a traffic signal on the prior day too. Sheriffs took him to the hospital for a medical evaluation because his story was so idiotic, and the situation so obviously wrong, that they figured something was wrong with him.

Before I go across a bridge or in a tunnel I stop and check my height of my motorhome or camper too be on the safe side. Better too be safe then sorry.
News, When engineers designed the iron bridge in Paoli they tried to account for lots of things. Unfortuantely they could not account for 23 year old Mary Lambright, a freshly minted CDL truck driver whose last name comically contains the word “bright”. You may think we’re being unnecessarily mean here but when you read the police statement below and see that she admitted to police that she saw the six ton weight limit signs and proceeded because she did not know how many pounds six tons represented you’ll understand our take a little better.
GPS will screw up a trucker. I've had drivers tell me they didn't stop because their GPS didn't tell them to stop. IF they buy the basic GPS instead of a unit loaded with truck routes, it messes them up.
Basic use every day weights and measures are not taught in school anymore.
Ask any kid how many ounces in a gallon or feet in a mile. They know a football field is 100 yards [some might get confused because the biggest number showing is 50] and only because there are big numbers painted but they haven't got a clue how many feet are the 100 yards.
If the operator doesn't know how many pounds are in a ton, I'm sure she also doesn't know how to figure the miles per gallon of her truck.
Looks like the trucks insurance company will be buying the town a new bridge.
JC why was this person given a license. But it doesn't surprise me. You guys should see who is doing construction these days. Holy Christ you just wanna slice your wrists and run away screaming "make it stop"
