I love the understated looks and the fun of having a sleeper that can surprise many modern sports/muscle cars and they would be priced the same as a Fully loaded/well equipped Mazda 6..
How about NO
Let's see what google gives me
2016 Chevrolet SS
Curb weight: 3,975 lbs
MSRP: From $46,575
Horsepower: 415 hp
MPG: Up to 14 city / 22 highway
2016 Mazda 6
MSRP: From $21,495
Horsepower: 184 hp
Curb weight: 3,179 to 3,250 lbs
MPG: Up to 26 city / 38 highway
The I grand touring, which is the fully loaded version, is $30,195. The Chevrolet SS base manual and automatic are $46,575
Google NEVER lies. These cars are NOT in the same category. I can get a BMW M3 for the cost of that chevy SS, which is a still a chevy in the end.

the only option on the Chevy SS is an optional sunroof and the choice between 6-Speed manual and 8-speed automatic is free all Chevy SS sedans come Fully loaded their are no base versions and they comepte more with the E39 M5 and the new 2016 Camaro SS LT1 competes with the BMW M3/M4
If I had to buy a family sedan right now, I would buy the Mazda 6 simply because it is available with a manual transmission. I could get a Touring model, Soul Red with manual for about $25K drive out. But I bought a Mustang GT instead.
Not long ago my son was in the market for a midsize sedan. You know the choices; Camry, Accord, Altima, Mazda 6 and Sonata/Optima perhaps. He went with the Altima. What broke the tie was factory promotion. Mazda is very good looking but you had to pay pretty much list. The current Altima is a very nice looking car, much sportier than Camry or Accord. And don't let the CVT scare you away. There is nothing to it. I have driven the car and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.
$46k muscle car, what avg family buys SS for grocery shopping?
Best looking family car imo, Mazda 6, Ford Fusion, and Kia Optima.
True most average families do not buy mid-size sedans but rather compact-mid-size SUV and full-size PU trucks seem to be the go too choice these days which is why mid-size sedans are struggling in terms of sales.
Listen I have nothing agianst the Mazda just that it looks nice but would be better if the offered AWD and a V6 option to compete better in the segment.
Since I see many Mazda 3's on the road but not very many newish Mazda 6's when compared to Honda Accord's, Toyota Camry's, Subaru Legacy's and the Ford Fusion's out there on the roads on a daily basis.
It is a beautiful looking car in a highly competitive segment that for some reason or other is not selling as well as the previous generation(s) they got the styling right buy are missing something I cannot put my finger on.
yet 99% of people with a Camry have the 4 cylinder version with CVT
The Mazda 6 still has a regular 6-speed automatic transmission.
CVT sucks ass.
All automatics do.
I loved my 2003 Mazda6s v6 with the 5 speed manual.
