I admit it. I drive regular cars like Nissan Rogues, Altimas. Never had a powerful car even a V6. Now if I get a V6 Honda Accord how does it feel vs a 4 cylinder 180hp ? Is the difference significant ? Is it more exhilarating and worth the extra cost ? I seek your opinions and I know there are not right answers.

Depends on the engine - power delivery with the V6 will probably be smoother with more torque. Gas mileage goes down though. Seat of the pants feel might be different too.

I can usually tell the difference between different 4cyl engines, I can always tell when I go from a 4 to a 6 and vice versa. That said, the last "switch" I did was going from a rental Chevy with a 180-ish HP 4cyl back to my Jeep with a V8 and 360hp. The 4cyl was a dog compared to that.

How much more powerful a car feels depends less on it's peak HP numbers, and more on it's torque curve. I've always found cars with nice, flat, high torque curves to be much more enjoyable. Usually by default, engines with more cylinders product more torque, and can feel quite snappy. Not always the case, especially with forced induction, but basically what I'm saying is try and look more closely at torque curves.

And yes, it is a noticeable difference from when I drive my wife's 4cyl accord, and then hop in my V8 Mustang and go for a ride.

There is more than just feel. You will certainly notice the difference in power. As the other poster noted it will also deliver it smoother. One thing not noted is noise. The V6 will cruise at a lower RPM and be quieter, something that matters to me. I have a 1st gen Ford Fusion with the V6. A friend of mine used to have the 4 cylinder. The thing I noticed whenever I rode in his car was how much noisier that engine was.

I never thought of the noise factor. I rented a 300 on vacation and that car was awesome. It was quiet and responsive and it was fun when it accelerated.

Not necessarily. That all depends on the trans gearing and such. My old V6 G35 sedan used to rev at 3000RPM at 80MPH on the highway with a 5-spd auto. Short gearing. I've driven 4cyl's that rev lower at 80.

I always thought that due to the additional weight of 6, it felt more stable.

It is 35 more HP but a lot depends on other things.. Power to weight ratio, how much torque, body style, etc....

You can have less HP in a smaller lighter, more aerodynamic vehicle and still beat the big boys...

V6 Accord(278hp) vs the 4 cylinder Accord(185hp) is a rather dramatic difference. Nearly 100hp more. You would most definitely notice it. The v6 Accord at 5.6 seconds to 60 puts many "sporty" cars to shame.

THe Honda Accord V6 might be the car I get. I normally lease but I think I will buy that one in two years. Any American car measures up to the Accord V6 ?
