I have a Camry which is working perfectly fine but I'm thinking of selling it and getting a used SUV for around $20,000 (I don't care to spend the money on a new vehicle even though I could).

Any ideas on the best value for my money, and what I should get? Here are my requirements:

Safe
comfortable
don't need 4WD
6 cyl.
good fuel economy
I live in the mountains so have to change elevation (300 ft. some when I go off on day trips but not daily)

There are not many used vehicles for sale privately (and there is a big savings here in AZ if you buy them privately).

I've been considering a Hyundai Sante Fe or Tucson. I have mostly driven Toyota and Honda and like Japanese vehicles however the 4Runners are $$$.

Thanks!

A 2009-2012 RAV4 V6 would be an excellent choice.

I would skip the Hyundai and consider a Subaru, for $20,000 you can get a fairly newer one.

One thing I forgot to mention is I love the size of the trunk in the Camry. I spoke to Toyota and the RAV4 is not bigger than a camera inside, funny enough.

These were much more expensive where I looked, they were asking almost 30,000 for some of them. Do you think I can find a decent one with average mileage for 20,000?

An outback? That's what I really wanted but thought they would be more expensive.

As far as space goes what are your needs (passangers/luggage/ tall or long stuff?). SUV for their size can be pretty deceptively compromised in cargo room due to the wheelwells/ roof lines ect.

How long do you intend to keep the vehicle?

What age/mileage are you looking at?

KIA, Honda Pilot, there are several good makes....You should be able to find a nearly new 6 cyl. for under $20,000.
