Hey folks. Looking at leasing an all wheel drive car as a secondary vehicle. Would like something cheap(ish), decent on gas, with four doors. I'd prefer AWD because I live in upstate NY. Not really considering a truck or SUV. Any recommendations?
Also, any tips on leasing a car? This will be my first. Thanks!
Subaru is good for a basic car with AWD, and with the CVT fuel economy is good. I would check the Forester, as it gives more utility than the Impreza, and with high residual values in the Northeast for Foresters, might be a better option for a lease. the Forester is more attractive as a used vehicle than an Impreza, hence it might not be much more expensive for a more expensive vehicle, compared to an Impreza. The majority of Subarus that tend to be popular are the wagons and hatchbacks, Outback and Forester. I'm in NY and DC and can't remember the last time I saw an Impreza sedan on the road, but it seems every tenth car is an outback or Forester.

For a lease, I'd probably go Subaru also. I'd check out the CUV's also, test drive 'em all; but for a low milage lease that I had no intention of keeping, Subaru seems like a winner.
Don't forget: tires make the difference in snow. If you aren't driving much, there may be value in buying a set of snows and swapping between them. I don't know how long OEM tires last in your neck of the woods but in mine OEM tires often are shot by 30k. If you have to buy tires... why not buy a set of snows for winter, and turn in the lease with half-worn OEM tires?

I have a Impreza lease. The payment is very reasonable, but probably not gonna go back to one in a few months when the lease is up. The OEM tires aren't great, have about 36,000 miles and the rear ones aren't holding up that well. Gas mileage has averaged about 27.5,sometimes higher on longer trips. Didn't look at the Forester as 90% of the time is just me.
