I've been looking up aftermarket heads up display products. Prices range from $40 to $500. The cheap versions use your smartphone and an app combined with a display screen that reflects the phone display as a HUD. the high end has a ODB port plug that sends data to a dashmounted display and has a steering wheel mounted thumb control to scroll through data you wish to see including speed, RPM, real time MPG, and even phone services including navigation. It'd be nice if all cars came with a speed HUD as a minimum. I'm curious about these products. All I want is speed HUD. Having real time MPG would be a bonus. But for my daily commute, this is all I would want and need.
Use your phone as HUD. It's that simple. Also, keep in mind, you will end with double edge reflection on the windshield, so a piece of mirror film, most AM HUDs come with anyway, will do. Then you install Torque app, free, set it to show speed and whatever else, mirror mode, et voila, here's your HUD.
If you REALLy need to see how your engine works while driving, you buy $10 worth OBD2 BT adapter for your car and Torque will show you whatever you want it to.
Want my opinion? I got fed up with that in matter of couple months. Cute toy but...
Word of wisdom. Buy a piece of static cling film to determine where you want final reflection. It is actually arduous task, as you need to drive in various lighting conditions to have final answer. Cling film you can move easily here and there.
