1. They often have less power than the plugged versions.
2. The run time sucks. They are ok if you can vacuum your car in 5 minutes or less. And referring back to 1, the more power it has, the less the run time will be.
I'd do corded any day over a cordless unless you absolutely must have a cordless.
I've never found anything that's cordless worth a damn. Get a small Ridgid vac and an extension cord.
Totally agree. The cordless vacs are garbage. They don't pick up $hit! You want a vac that does a decent job cleaning out the interior of a car then get a small shop vac. It will pick up all the grains of sand, grime, dirt, food and all other junk under the seats and with a flexible hose you will get into places most cheap hand vacs won't. If you want to do an inadequate job cleaning out your car then get one of those crappy hand held's. You want to do it right then get a shop vac.
I just open both doors of my ole fishing truck and hit it with a leaf blower. You wouldn't want to try this on the family sedan, but for a beater vehicle, it works just fine.

I use a 6 gal small size shopvac. It has enough suction to pick up small rocks & grit & doghair!
We suck strings in long runs of conduit with this puppy, it's powerful. Professional tradesman approved. Ignore all the non-pros in here they don't know what they're talking about.
If you need long run time get a 9AH battery. That's overkill though, a 3AH or 4AH would be just find for infrequent car use.
It's not cheap though, if you want cheap you get cheap.
