"Pickup trucks are more versatile and cost much less than comparably equipped cars."

Man, wouldn't it be nice if that were still true.

I never understood why they didn’t put the 3.8 in it, it would’ve been perfect for that size truck.

I bought a 1986 Mazda B2000 when they first came out in 1985. LOVED that little truck!

For the first half of its life, I commuted 60 miles each way to my office in NJ traffic and then in Northern VA traffic. Of course it was a pretty good "around town" vehicle as well and we did like to take it on driving vacations, etc. That little truck never missed a beat. It was peppy, handled well, and was pretty good on gas. The wife even liked to drive it when I was away on business trips.

Put more than 250K miles out of it before the head gasket blew when I was pulling into a lot to sell it. Great timing, huh? The guy still bought it, but for considerably less than our pre-negotiated price.

So did I! They came out with the 1986 truck so early in 1985 that some article referred to it as a 1985 1/2 model.

The size was just about perfect, with a bed 89” long. Mine had nonpower steering and it was actually easy to drive despite that. I got 30 mpg hwy right off the bat (EPA rated it at 27), and later got to 32-33 mpg consistently...until I moved to CO, when it dropped back down to 30 mpg.

I thought it was underpowered, though. All the trucks I got after that had V6 engines.
