Chevrolet Volt General Motors' all-electric Volt to reach consumers in late 2010

General Motors is quite confident these days. The company recently priced its highly-anticipated full-size hybrid SUVs and showed off a concept version of its full-size hybrid Chevrolet Silverado. GM CEO Rick Wagoner also noted that his company will release one hybrid per quarter for the next four years --lofty goals indeed.

Damn, it's fugly though. I was interested until I took a closer look at that picture.

I guess if there's a hybrid in my future, it'll be the Prius, which is cute, and I'm sure its looks help it sell.

Definitely a little on the butt ugly side but I would consider a Chevy Volt!

I'd still rather have an EV-1.

There's a really interesting Article in the month's The Atlantic magazine on the Volt, including interviews with the project chief (who had been the head of the EV-1 program) and other people inside GM. Doesn't sound like they are exactly on track yet, mostly due to the battery technology.

The article is copyrighted (and not up online yet anyway), but check it out at the library - it's the issue with the headline "Is Google Making Us Stooopid?". (Also an interesting article, but the cute headline isn't exactly the gist of the article.)

I read that GM is really banking on a government tax credit for this car so as to make it affordable, albeit only taking the car from an estimated sticker price of 40k down to 33k. And then they would be selling the car at a loss. I just hope it does well for them.
