Not that I plan on being in a situation one day but what is the frequency?

I recall for boats is is 156Mhz but that was decades ago. Do air and sea use the same frequency?

Pardon my next question....Is Mayday still used?

121.5 MHz For Aviation,

Yes, Mayday is still used. (Three Times, Mayday, Mayday, Mayday).

Pan Pan Pan for Urgent, One step below Mayday

Actually the phrase is "pan-pan" repeated three times:

"Pan-pan pan-pan pan-pan"

Thanks everyone. Aviation really the most polite and professional of all the subforums. Never seen a dust-up here as in others.

Lucky I've never needed to do a Mayday or a Pan-Pan...

Did get to be practiced on by the airport fire department once, they chased me down the runway, (I stopped on runway, shut down) they sprayed water (over the top) of my Cherokee. And "Extracted" me from the cockpit. (They open'ed the door).

ATC had asked me when I was in the pattern on my final landing if the Airport Fire Departmental could do a practice run on me. Not sure what the people in the Passenger terminal must have been thinking with this going on the runway in front of them.

You can also squawk 7700 in your transponder if you have an emergency.

I was going to ask that as well if there is no voice line if one can squawk on a frequency.

I suppose no one uses Morse anymore?

7600 is for Comm Failure,

ATC Might ask you to IDENT (Push a button on the transponder) that make your Plane Blip/Tag Show up Bolder on their screen.

If you can hear them, they will ask your push the IDENT button, So they know they can talk to you, but you can't talk to them.

So they can issue you instructions, and you can Acknowledge them by pushing the button.

Otherwise they will expect you to follow your flight plan, (But odds are they will clear the air space around you anyway).
