The most expensive weapons program in U.S. history is about to get a lot pricier.

The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, meant to replace nearly every tactical warplane in the Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps, was already expected to cost $1 trillion dollars for development, production and maintenance over the next 50 years.

Sad to say, but the F-35...is now DOA.

Lockheed needs to buy back the planes already produced and start over.

buy them back with what? Lockheed itself is only worth about $35 billion.

It's baffling how flaws are found in a product, and somehow, the government is going to pay the manufacturer more to fix them. I don't know how their contracts are worded, but in my world (construction management), if the contract says "provide A, B, and C for the amount of $XYZ", if we build a building and it has flaws that don't deliver A, B and C, we don't get paid to fix them- we still get $XYZ dollars and eat the cost of the changes/repairs.

It's as if Lockheed gets told "your design is flawed and doesn't provide what we asked for- but don't worry- we'll pay you extra to provide what we originally requested". Amazing.....

And your point is?

Let's compare. How much have paid for the National Institute of Health and the Center for Disease Control?

And we don't even have cure for the common cold, or cancer. So let's abolish those fed dept's. After all, they haven't accomplished much.

Complex technology takes a little more then hanging a picture on a wall.

Geez what high expectations people have of American engineering...

Designing a first ever aircraft with absolutely zero flaws.

What is the reasoning behind if it costs more money it must be flawless?
