This is an amazing photo and you would think it's faked. Even more amazingly they both lived with minor injuries. What could possibly have preceded this? Check out the link.
The elderly are not only making our roads more dangerous, but also the air.
I don't know much about aviation but it would seem to me that's like blaming someone for walking out in front of your car as you are driving down a road. Wouldn't it be the responsibility of the ground crew for the skydiver to insure no one was using the runway. Isn't it all visual for small runways like this? If you're flying the airplane isn't your focus ahead and what is above of you?

Not if someone walks out in front of your car it isn't.... the analogy wouldn't be someone in a crosswalk where you have clear line of sight to see them and plenty of time to stop. The analogy here would be someone stepping into the road and you have no chance to stop. Again I don't know what the rules of aviation are but it would seem to me that is the case here.

Both the pilot involved, and the pilot of the jump plane, should have been aware of each other's presence, and activities, because they should both have been transmitting on Unicom. (Assuming of course, that this was an uncontrolled airport.) And the parachutist was certainly in a better position to be aware of the aircraft in the pattern, than the pilot was to be aware of a parachutist about to land on the runway.

Couple of things;
The jumper should have been more able to see the aircraft than vice versa.
The pilot should have been aware via Unicom that jumping was occurring in the area. 87 years old? Much like drivers licenses, I would love to see competency requirements. Yes, I know the biennial flight review governs.
Hang a big chute on the end of any aircraft and watch the aerodynamics change.
Still can't believe no one was seriously injured (or worse).
-Cheers.
