How Much Would You Put Up With to Avoid United Airlines?
By Kevin Quealy

United Airlines’s self-induced crisis last week lost the company points on social media, and dollars in its market cap. But will it actually lose customers as a result?

The results of a clever experiment published today by Morning Consult suggest that — for the moment, at least — the answer is yes.

Interesting, but given all the incidents of late - aren't we running our airlines we're willing to fly?

I'm not shocked. If you don't act like a complete dipshot as a convicted felon, you will have an uneventful flight. Most of the population that can fog a mirror understands this.

The ones that can't fog a mirror will still buy the cheapest ticket.

That's a month old article. That's ancient news now. What's happening now? Most likely, things will go back to near normal when everyone realizes that all airlines have similar issues.

I was on three United Flights and three Delta flights last week. All 6 flights were completely uneventful. We were asked up front if we would sign up for a voucher in the event that there weren't enough seats on the plane. We were offered $1,000 travel vouchers IF they were overbooked and we agreed to take another flight.

Once on the planes, we were told that since the flights were full we would only be allowed to take one small bag and one personal item on the plane. Smaller rolling bags would have to be checked. No one had an issue with that and the flights were uneventful.

On the way home we were in a layover in Atlanta and about 5 minutes prior to boarding we were told last minute that there were 5 people needing seats asap and asked for people to take the voucher and give up their seats. One lady who put herself on the list began to complain until a soldier in his dress blues came up and advised her that the reason the seats were needed were to transport a fallen soldier's family back home. The fallen soldier was also on the plane. The lady quickly quieted down and the problem was solved.

It appears that in most cases these issues can all be avoided if people would act appropriately.

What a shocker. As soon as the other passengers plans are disrupted by some entitled
a-hole, they turn on the "victim".

United Airlines has horrific customer service. If they don't beat you up, or make false charges against you of child trafficking or pedophilia, or downgrade you from business to economy because you're elderly, you should be "satisfied" that the staff is merely rude, condescending, and unhelpful.

United flies 150 million passengers a year and people base their opinions on one (or a few) incidents? The police that rough-house Dr. Chao weren't even United employees.

Yet if a United plane crashed and 400 people died, I doubt if anyone would bat an eye.

Well per the article you linked United didn't downgrade anyone because they were 94, she was free to keep her seat if she wished. Apparently she couldn't feed herself or take care of herself so her family member sitting in economy was told she wouldn't be allowed to move back and forth from economy to business class to help
