Tonight at the Enoch Pratt Free Library

Eric S. Zeemering, Collaborative Strategies for Sustainable Cities: Economy, Environment and Community in Baltimore

Tuesday, July 15 at 6:30pm

Central Library, Poe Room 400 Cathedral Street, Baltimore, MD 21201

Baltimore, like many other cities, is redesigning local government policy and programs to become a more sustainable city. Sustainability encourages city officials to integrate policy and programs addressing the economic, environmental, and social health of the community. This requires collaboration between city government and neighborhood and community organizations, funders, and state and federal agencies. Collaborative Strategies for Sustainable Cities examines how cities define sustainability and form policy implementation networks to integrate sustainability into city programs.

Eric Zeemering is assistant professor in the Department of Public Policy at UMBC. Presented in partnership with 1000 Friends of Maryland and Baltimore GreenWorks.

Someone please ask the presenter(s): How can Baltimore City claim to support environmental sustainability yet, unlike its neighboring counties, does not support residential tax credits to subsidize and promote the adoption of solar-based technologies for home heating, cooling and electricity production? We need legislation drafted and laws passed; not more PowerPoint presentations at community gatherings. I wish I could attend.

Great question!

With your permission, may I ask this pertinent question?

Please do, I care a more about the issue than pride of ownership.

"We need legislation drafted and laws passed; not more PowerPoint presentations at community gatherings. I wish I could attend."

This was an editorial and not part of the question.
