An entire block in Baltimore's Little Italy is on the market and ripe for redevelopment

Feb 9, 2016, 11:18am EST Updated Feb 9, 2016, 11:29am EST

An entire block in the heart of Baltimore's Little Italy is up for sale.
A representative for the sellers said Tuesday they hope to make way for a nine-story apartment and retail development that could attract former residents of the beloved community to return to city living.

Baltimore's Little Italy neighborhood has seen multiple restaurants close over the last… more

The undisclosed location and asking price of the properties is part of a "secret listing," said Joseph Scalia, a real estate broker who lives in Little Italy and is handling the deal.
He said the multiple properties that make up the listing have so far produced "unbelievable offers" for the 19,000 square feet of space over the past week.
"I can say that the listing includes institutional icons," Scalia said Tuesday morning. "These properties have not been on the market for three or four generations and currently house businesses which are fixtures in both the neighborhood and the city."

This is happening to the NY Little Italy as well as generations grow, they seem to leave the nest. Back in the 60's Little Italy was predominately Italian as immigrants from Italy moved to this area as it usually lead to the community taking them in and getting them started. This was also the same with the Chinatown that Baltimore once had but as generations separated and moved out to the surburbs, it slowly died as well. Little Italy is slowly being sold out to big developers offering generous offers.

I was just talking to someone about this situation. Craziness. Cannot wait to see what happens down there.

I don't think Little Italy has many Italians today. They left with the rest during white flight.
