First of all I am currently in the process of signing for a 2 bedroom on the corner of Luzerne Ave and Fleet street over in the Canton/Patterson Park area. I will be working at the VZW store on the 1000 block of Fleet St (across from whole foods).

I know Canton is a very walkable neighborhood, which is part of why I chose the place. Its exactly a one mile walk to work and I was just wondering what peoples thoughts were on that particular walk.

Also with it being so close to Patterson Park, where would I go to investigate intramural sports being held there?

Any bars/restaurants that are particularly recommended over others down on the square? I'm sure with enough experimenting it'll be easy to find plenty of fun places, but recommendations are always great.

Any other good places to meet people/hang out besides the park or the square?

And finally just general thoughts of the Canton area, the people, safety, etc.

For the sports, I think this was posted on here before: Baltimore Sports & Social Club, Inc.
My favorite restaurant on the square is Mama's on the Half Shell--great seafood appetizers.
Meeting people: Fells Point. or, get a dog and walk him.
Thoughts on Canton: good location. Lots of younger people in the area and many from out of town.

I think you'll be fine.

Oh--the walking--I do it practically every day. On nicer days, I walk the waterfront-quieter and a chance for me to get my thoughts together for work.

I have a black lab, unfortunately no pets allowed at the place. I think i will work on getting him up for weekend visits as he currently resides with my parents and lives quite comfortably with their yellow lab.

Great information though thank you very much, looking forward to it quite a bit.

There are a lot of great bars off the square. O'Donnells Pub at Fleet and Curly Cheap and friendly, mostly neighborhood folks. Sharkys is also pretty good for food and drink on Eastern ave.
