While looking at homes for sale in Baltimore, I've repeatedly come across listings that state "Subj to MSBD tax". Can anyone explain this tax or provide a link for it?

I've searched the web, this forum, and the city of Baltimore's web site with no luck.

I'm not a real estate agent so I'm not sure but I suspect that the listings are referring to the income tax deductions for historic property and heritage area preservation (maybe MD Special Benefits District?). This is a credit allowed for rehabilitation of historic properties.

It sounds like you might be looking at houses in Mt. Vernon, Charles Village, or Bolton Hill. These neighborhoods are in a benefits district where residents are required to pay an additional tax for supplemental sanitation and security.

Midtown Community Benefits District (http://www.midtowncommunity.org/home.html - broken link)

rudy_d you are probably right - I wasn't aware of this and was really just guessing (although the historic credit does exist). Thanks for the info.

As a matter of fact, those are the neighborhoods I was referring to.

Thanks.
