Hello. I'll be attending the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health in a month or so and am looking for apartments between DC and Baltimore. Laurel seems like a good choice, yet when I plug Laurel and the school into the trip planner it seems to direct me to DC before it points me toward Baltimore.

8800 Hunting Ln, Laurel, MD 20708 to 615 N Wolfe St, Baltimore, MD 21205 - Google Maps

Isn't there a more direct route between the two destinations? I greatly appreciate your help.

Thats weird , down the street is MARC Camden line. Which you would take NorthBound to the Camden Yards and switch to Light Rail and take that North-bound to Lexington Market and switch to the Metro and take that to the John Hopkins Hospital which is right near the school. A local can probably fill you in on the how much it will cost $$ and other stuff.

If you're using a trip planner that's hooked into public transit schedules, it might be directing you toward DC first because of the time of day you're searching. The Camden line doesn't run all day long (only during rush hour, basically). Hence, if you're searching at 2 p.m., a trip planner will probably calculate the shortest distance, which, from Laurel, probably means going on Metrobus to DC, then taking the MARC Penn Line to B-more.

Thank you both. I got it to point in the right direction. The trip is a bit long from the address I entered, but I guess the trip planner isn't aware of the Hopkins shuttle that stops at Penn Station. Hopefully that will save some time. Also, now that I know the train won't go backwards before forwards, I can start looking for places along the line closer to campus. Thanks again.
