Have you noticed that since the House that Ruth Built went down, the Yankees won 1 World Series title since 2001?

They won their 27th World Series championship in 2009----the year that their new Stadium was opened.

Why did they tear down the old Stadium?

Old stadiums are always torn down. Tiger Stadium was torn down but it lasted for over a decade before demolition.

Indeed.

Baltimore's Memorial Stadium is now just a memory.

I'm glad I was able to go to a game at Tiger Stadium in its last season.

Because it was 85 years old. Because the politicians in NY agreed to a new stadium, and.. When that happens, you better jump on it.. New stadium has about 4 times the luxury boxes, which are a huge revenue generator. Has more elevators and other things to help comply with ADA requirements. Concourses are far wider... And remember, the old Yankee Stadium, to an extent, was built as a multi-purpose venue.

It was time. They had about maxed out the renovations they could do to the old stadium.

You could also say that Steinbrenner died in 2010.. Haven't won a WS since then.. And this is.. probably the most accurate one. Once his sons took over, which was a few years before his death.

Torre was ushered out after 2007.. Only won one since then..

No idea but they could have renovated it carefully and over many years like they have with Wrigley and Fenway and been on the same exact prestigious location. I can't stand the Yankees but I would have wanted to see the old stadium tons just as a baseball fan.. The new ballpark I have no desire to see. I'll just go to any newer ballpark and get that fix in doing that..

This is just as bad as the White sox moving out of old comiskey for that newer ballpark nobody likes now too..

Nobody would spend $2 billion on a stadium if they didn't absolutely have to. It's not like the city/Steinbrenners tore down the Statue Of Liberty to put up a Starbucks.

In the mid 70's that "old" stadium was totally rebuilt, so it really wasn't the House the Ruth built, it was known as the house that George Rebuilt. The Yankees had to play at Shea Stadium for two years.

I went to some games at the old Yankee Stadium in 2006 and 2007, and at the new Yankee Stadium in 2009 and 2010, and I agree with you 100%.
