The dude asked a question. I answered it to the best of my ability. Not sure how that could possibly be 'jumping all over' him.
Hamels broke Wilson Valdez' and Brandon Moss' bats in batting practice and in spring training, clearly with this new information I am ready to say that he's a better pitcher than Halladay and Lee. Probably better than them combined.
I very much appreciate your stats, and baseball is the best stat game in my book. Much of the Hamels discussion is annecdotal at best, agreed but there is a growing vibe that Hamels is set for a monster year. no stats to back it up but he is bigger/stronger from all appearances, the fast ball is at his best velocity (something lacking in prior years) and makes the change up that much better. Plus the anectodal talk is that his cutter and breaking pitches look a year further developed in camp thus far. this coupled with which to me is a much lessor stress burden, following Halliday and Lee can do that and that he will likely be pitching against more 3s and 4s this year has me frankly a little excited about his prospects.
Honestly though this team just has more excited than I ever remember to see the first pitch. Just cant get here soon enough...
I think he could have the best year so to speak but i agree they are both better pitchers than Hamels but having a Hamels or Oswalt as the number 3/4 and even a Blanton as the 5 - well no need to comment further
Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com reports that Domonic Brown has a fractured hook of the hamate bone in his right hand. Unbelievable.
Surgery is likely, according to David Hale of the News Journal, and would likely sideline him for 3-to-6 weeks. In other words, Ben Francisco is your Opening Day right fielder.
He had the surgery today, will be out 3-6 weeks.Kind of ironic that he hurt it getting his first hit of spring training after going 0-15.I'm a little more concerned with Utley's knee issue right now, seems to be getting worse.
Phillies seem to be in a spot where they'll need to pick up an infielder until Utley can be available. Fortunately, there are many decent players who should be available.

This to me is becoming a little more concerning than my liking

People are really killing them for picking up Luis Castillo. I dunno why. If he hasn't eaten himself out of baseball, he could be an adequate 2nd baseman. Nobody is picking up on this, but the real reason the Phils are interested in Castillo is that he gets on base. He has no pop whatsoever, but he has a tendency to always end up with high on-base percentage. He sees lots of pitches and walks a lot. Last year he hit .235 but still had a .337 OBP. The year before last, he hit .302 and had a .387 OBP. His OBP over the past 3 years is superior to Jimmy Rollins, Shane Victorino and close to Polanco's. Especially with Werth gone, they have nobody who just gets on base. Valdez will probably still play second most of the time even if they do sign Castillo. He can be a RH pinch hitter who can move a runner over or get on base in the late innings.
Even if he's washed up, they're not throwing out even a penny. They look at him for a bit more than a week, and if he doesn't pan out, they get rid of him, no strings attached. Even if they sign him, they only pay him the $400,000 minimum. There is no downside to Castillo.
