Report: Nets agree to trade for Joe Johnson from Hawks

Pretty good trade for Brooklyn. Atlanta really wanted to get rid of that contract. This probably ends the Dwight to Brooklyn chances. Another strange thing about this deal is that it is contingent on Deron signing with the Nets which has nothing to do with the Hawks.

They have no idea what they are doing over there.

If a top 3 player in the NBA says specifically that he wants to play for you, why would you on the same day trade for a player that kills your chances of trading for him or signing him?

Unless they know something I don't, dumb trade. If they did to keep Deron and he stays, it looks better, but at this point, they might as well have gone after Dwight. They've given up years of draft picks...

Word is, is that the Magic refused to listen to offers for Howard from the Nets.

Maybe the magic have decided that they'd rather have Dwight just leave if he so chooses and will refuse to sign and trade him?

Basically, either the Nets are idiots or they know something some of us don't....know if it were the Knicks then I'd go with idiots as a safe bet.

hollinger seems to think the hawks are trying and can land howard and CP3 to go along with josh smith next season. they will likely have 40mil in cap room and can trade away horford to make even more room if need be. howard and josh smith are very close friends (howard was smiths best man) and played in high school together, and paul apparently wanted to play for the hawks in the past and is friends with howard also. (with the exception of duncan and garnett, are there any 2 players that really are not friends? seems every scenario has player x is good friends with player y)

atlanta with howard, smith, chris paul and some shooters would be interesting. thats one nasty defensive team anyway.

Ooooh, that would be a title contender after some time to gel.

You would have 3 teams in the east duking it out then (assuming health etc.)

Yes, but they'd still have cap room for him next year if they didn't trade for Joe Johnson.

Yes but Deron would most likely leave, since he is a free agent this season. And there is the very real possibility that Howard would get traded and resign with whoever trades for him since he'll get more money that way versus waiting for free agency. The Nets have waited(and sucked) for years in the hopes that they could land howard. It's time for them to fish or cut bait!

I think the magic are calling Dwights bluff. They are betting that Dwight won't really test free agency and take less money that he is just posturing to get as much money as possible from his team of choice. They are betting as long as he doesn't get traded to NO he'll resign whoever he's traded.
And rumor is they asked about a trade and were told no.

Well. I am actually a Nets fan, believe it or not. I would like to see them get both guys.

My gut feeling is they'll get neither.

I thought they had a chance at LeBron too. Lol.
