We are moving from NE North Dakota this month to Bend, OR. We researched the average winter temps and 40 was the search result. Lately we were told it is going to be much worse then what we think I understand at night it gets very cold. Is it often in the teens or below zero during the days?
Thank you!

None of these report the average daily temp so some guessing is needed. The thermometer doesn't register the high temp for very long in the winter months.

Weather in Bend is much milder than weather in North Dakota.

There are plenty of winter days when I walk around in a T-shirt. But, I am local. Some one from San Diego would probably need a coat. You are coming from North Dakota, you will probably find it T-shirt weather, too.

Day temps over freezing, nights below freezing are pretty common. Then there will be several weeks scattered around when we have the Polar Express and it will be minus 10, or minus 20. When it gets that low, it is dry, so it is pretty comfortable.

Buy yourself a good ski coat from Columbia Sportswear and you will be fine.

By the way, I never zip up my ski jacket except for very rarely when I am up high in the Cascades and the wind is blowing.

I got a good laugh from your post. If I didn't force my son to put on long pants he'd be wearing shorts all winter.

There are few places in the country with worse winter weather than NE North Dakota. A winter in Fargo and Aneta about killed me. Bend is not balmy, but it isn't North Dakota either.

North Dakota is obviously colder. The only other places that get as cold as it are Alaska, Minnesota, South Dakota, Montana, and Wisconsin. I can see why Bend can get cold due to the chinook winds from the Cascades but it still does not have the same feel to it as when you're deep in-land.

Default Thanks!

Thank you everyone! Bend weather has been awesome. People we spoke with over the phone were telling us it would be much worse then what we thought. A lady at the store yesterday told me Bend has two seasons......winter and August for me fall was beautiful when we arrived and there has been two weeks of winter. The rest has been spring! I cannot wait for this summer. I know it's going to be lots of fun! Our family is loving Bend. Great place to live all around thanks again for all your help!
