I had no idea we had slots right here in Garden City. I'm talking about Les Bois Race track. We discovered it while at the horse races a couple of weeks ago. It's nice to know if we feel in the mood to play some slots we don't have to drive all the way to Jackpot, Nv! There must be at least 50 machines or more, the people working there are very friendly and I did win some money! I'm surprised I never heard anything about it being there, if we hadn't went to the races and checked the place out I still wouldn't know it was there!

They're a very new thing (last couple months) and whether or not they get to stay remains to be seen. The work-around that Garden City is using (since gambling is illegal in Idaho except for Bingo and pari-mutuel betting at the horse races) is that these slot machines fall under the pari-mutuel betting category and are for "Instant Racing". Basically, you bet on historical races and so it gives it a work around.
It might not last because the legislature that approved it, didn't really do their research, and thus didn't know exactly what they were approving. And since you went, you can probably tell that it has a more of a casino atmosphere, something that wasn't wanted by the legislature.
Still, it's definitely fun for now.

Yes it did have a casino atomosphere, some of the same machines I have always loved to play. What impressed my sister and I when we went was how friendly the people are that work there. It was a fun place and we will be going back. We each only took $20 with us when we went so we are not big gamblers by any means, it was just fun!

We saw reports on the news last Fall/Winter when Garden City approved it. Then again this spring just before they were installed. You must have missed it. It will probably be news again before all is said and done!

This seems to me to be illegal, but I hate to ruin anyone's fun. I would caution that if only one establishment is offering this, then there perhaps is a problem. Not to mention the odds are probably slim. Go to Jackpot, or even to the Shoshone/Bannock Casinos in E. Idaho. Even Wendover is quite nice this time of year. And you can have a beer while you lose your paycheck.

To just confirm, slots are not allowed in Idaho outside of the Indian Reservations. If Garden City has some sort of exemption, someone please inform me. Oregon has video keno and video slots in select bars and restaurants, acting as part of the state lottery. Montana has limited casinos with electronic machines, but they are restricted to small retail establishments. Washington allows big Indian casinos, but otherwise limited to small casinos that are mostly table game establishments.
Idaho...what am I missing? Outside of the Indian reservations, I believe Idaho's gambling opportunities are severely limited. Utah? Don't even ask. They don't exist. And you can't even buy a lottery ticket in the state.

Slots were legal in Idaho well into the 50's. i believe they were a county option back then.
I can remember seeing them in the downtown hotels in Idaho Falls as a child. Punchboards, another game of chance, were even more popular. I saw many punchboards in cafés, drug store fountains, and rural mercantile stores.

My sister got the players card when we were there, that came with $5.00 free play money. Today in the mail she got another $10 of free play money, so looks like we will be going back soon!

I am still baffled by this. Casinos with slots are not legal in Idaho outside of Indian Reservations. Can someone please identify this Garden City casino, its address, and official name?
