Sounds like you really enjoyed this book.

I've read Angela's Ashes and although nearly everyone I know liked or loved it, it left me cold. Don't know why, but sometimes a book and an author inspire and other times they don't; can't account for tastes.

Angela's Ashes is one of my favorite books. I've also read Tis. I plan to read Teacher Man. I am of Irish descent, and the life McCourt describes jives with information learned when we studied the branch of our family that emigrated to the U.S. I had one Irish friend who started it, but found it so true and depressing (noted, in particular, sexual abuse by the clergy) she couldn't finish the autobiography. IMHO, McCourt's Irish wit made up for the sad parts. I read awhile back that McCourt had been accused of enriching the story to make it interesting, but he responded that he wrote the book solely from his memories. Tastes in books vary widely so it's a good we have such a wealth from which to choose.

Ya know, I don't think I would say alot of people "liked" it...but everyone I know who has read it was affected by it. It is not an "enjoyable" read. It is a good read, compelling, and enlightening.

I read "Tis" and that was much more enjoyable, but also more forgetable!.
