I did use Amazon but with their views on southern heritage and culture I am boycotting so who is next best place? Used to be able to get some books for 4-4.50$ on Amazon with the 1 cent books and 4$ shipping.

Have you heard of Half Price Books? Their website has many small dealers who sell books. Through the HP site, I found Better World Books which I love to use because they make donations to literacy.

You can get some good deals on book lots on eBay. I've generally found individual books on eBay are not a bargain.

Whenever I'm looking for a book, my first go-to place is thriftbooks.com.
They have a wide selection available, and you can also ask to receive "alerts" if you want a book they don't currently have in stock.
During the last year or so the prices have gone up a little, and they now charge 99 cents for shipping if your order is under $10., but the overall cost is almost always less than you'd pay anywhere else.

Yup. You can find almost anything- and they don't sock you with ridiculous postage fees like Amazon does!

half.com by ebay

They handle sales for a gazillion different vendors, including Thriftbooks.

Actually, I buy a lot from Thriftbooks. Maybe I should eliminate the middleman!

Sorry, but I have to say this:

Do you really want to perpetuate an attitude where books are treated as worthless? I'm happy to buy discounted books - although I try to buy them some place where they benefit the business and the publisher - but expecting books for 1c, or even $1, seems a little extreme.
