I read that book too. I cant remember the name. If I recall the author also wrote another one about the aftermath of WW3 ant the Chinese had invaded North America. There was a group of american guerillas trying to find a place to hide and stumbled upon a top secret research base in a mountain where everyone was dead except a few people. They had created some type of field generator that when they first turned it on killed everyone. The survivors and rebels managed to create a completely new technology using this field generator that helped them fight the Chinese. Sorry cant remember the name. I read at the same time a book called Free flight but that came out in 1980.
A good but old book is Earth Abides. Many modern novels and moves were based on it.

I found this list of post apocalyptic books for the last 60 years. 60 Years Of Post-Apocalyptic Fiction: A Chronological Curriculum Of The Ultimate Catastrophe

I also did a long google question but that didn't help. Does this person remember if the author was male or female? If it was a female author it may be a bit easier because there are less p.a. female writers. I also wonder when he/she read the book if it was a new release or an older book,

The problem with post apocalyptic books is they never have a huge following and are generally only printed once. I have many that I cant even find a reference to online.

Actually, I am getting the info from a person who is looking for a friend of hers. She said that what she posted is all that he remembers about the book. He would like to read it again, is why she posted the request for him. Not much to go on, I know.

That's not a problem - it's just a fact of life for most books, regardless of genre. Most books go through only one printing. And most books most certainly do not have anything resembling a huge following.
