Do you think the pet rehoming fee is generally too high?
The shelter charges about $300 for adopting a kitten.
Craigslist posters charge about the same. One post even asks for $900 per kitten.

When I lived in the Midwest a few years ago, the rehoming fee for a kitten was usually $20. I even got one for free.

The Craigslist ad is for a purebred cat (very pretty btw). The $300 probably includes shots and neutering.

Petsmart and Petco have adoption days where local shelters bring in animals and they tend to be available at a lower cost.

Craigslist does not allow for pet sales.

pet sales (re-homing with small adoption fee ok), animal parts, stud service

Usually they will allow you to advertise a pet that needs rehoming and charge a small fee. While $300 for a purebred is cheap, i'm guessing the reason the add was flagged and removed was because it met the criteria for a sale, or they felt the rehome fee was too much.

The post I pasted asked for $900.
It seems they posted another ad https://boston.craigslist.org/bmw/pe...223689691.html

It's not a rehoming fee, it's a bad breeder selling kittens on Craigslist.

Yeah, that's a breeder trying to sell pets, which is against CL policy.

An allowable transaction would be someone that is moving to NY and can't take their cat and charged a $25 rehoming fee to cover maybe some of the food and supplies that would go with the cat as well. I've seen people rehome birds, and charge a small fee to cover their cages and such. Little bit of a gray area, but it was usually under $50. $900 is someone breeding for profit.
