NC rates for quality life at 28th best-Massachusetts rated in the top 5.

Prices are a wee lower in NC- but in the end you get for what you pay. I know many from CT who have relocated to NC and HATE IT.

It is still a RED State folks.

Well, to each his own - I am only trying to be helpful. In my experience many folks from the high end areas of this country on the left coast or upper east coast have no clue how much more affordable and pleasant life really is in many other places in this country. My quality of life is very high here in Charlotte and I am not paying out the nose (or other orifices) to have it

I agree, lovesMountains, out of all the people we know who have relocated to the Charlotte area, not one has come back. Some have left to take advantage of the lower cost housing, and some because the jobs left and moved there.

Have you considered NC? Raleigh is the #2 least expensive place to live, but Charlotte would offer more opportunities in the food service industry. We have a busy convention center, and NASCAR, bringing many folks to town all the time. Our restuarants are always busy. Just a thought...

Here is the link to the article if anyone wants to verify what I have said:

I've lived several decades in both Florida and Georgia and visited North Carolina countless of times and in my opinion... you get what you pay for. I like the Asheville area but I find both Charlotte and Raleigh most boring and depressing. I know it is cheap but everything requires a long drive. It is great if you like big McMansions and strip malls.

I think if you like the cultural diversity and urbanity of Philly, you would hate North Carolina.

For every story like yours there will be 10 others saying the opposite, but that's not the point.

I was merely trying to point out to the op that if he doesn't HAVE to go to Boston, one of the most expensive cities in this country, that there are other options for more affordable living. This is in no way meant to bash Boston, which is a fine city. But the op is concerned about living safely on $1000. a month rent so it was worth mentioning other alternatives.

Default I agree

salmonman2006@yahoo.com

i can prolly give you some decent insight since ive lived both in philly and in boston.

What part of philly are ya in? I used to exterminate all the resteraunts on south street - galleria mall - south philly etc.

If you got a job on Newbury street you are in some HIGH END DINING! compare it to beverly hills or greenich village.

Im an at home dad and i must say i did just stumble on this site- but i can answer some Q's for ya at my leisure.

I am used to not getting to much for my money as I lived in L.A. before moving to Philly. When I moved to Philly I almost wet my pants at the size of my house I got for less than what I paid for a 400 sq foot apartment in L.A. My place now is a 3 story townhouse, 3 bed, fully finished basement, big porch, garage, front and back yard, and an amazing kitchen. This is going to be a lot to give up and I know I won't find anything like that in boston, but to work with such a prestigious restaurant company I am willing to make a sacrafice.
