So, my job just moved from the Westminster area to Evergreen!

From my house in Boulder now, it takes about 50min-1hr to get to my job now via 93, i-70, then the Evergreen Parkway exit. My job is offering relocating costs to move closer to the Evergreen area, and in my case, pretty much anywhere south would be closer. I'm still a young adult so I don't really want to move to somewhere completely suburban, I'm thinking of moving to the southern Capitol Hill area around 6th Ave or just west of Downtown Denver around Sloan's Lake. These two places would put me, according to google maps and a coworker who lives around that area, about 30-40 min from my job via US-6 or i-70. I also just signed a lease here in Boulder about 3 months ago.

My questions are how bad does Highway 93 get in the winter? I've lived in Colorado a few years but am not an expert snow-driver, and that's what kind of scares me. How much should I expect my commute time to increase if I stay in Boulder? Is it worth breaking my lease and going through the hassle of finding a new apartment/moving all my stuff again?

Thanks!

My wife commutes to the Interlocken area via 93 and it's not too bad. It doesn't get plowed as much as 36, but it's drivable. Honestly, I think you are crazy to make that commute when it snows. It could easily take 3-4 hours because I70, Golden, and 93 could be very slow.

It takes me 45min from DT Evergreen to DT Denver on dry weather days, but Westminster to Evergreen would be even longer. I would give Golden a look.

Just curious but does it save any time taking 6 through Clear Creek Canyon? The speed is slower and not sure if they plow it in the winter months but I enjoy taking it when ever I have head west on I-70.

Thanks, that makes sense.

I've driven through Black Hawk multiple times and still haven't stopped by the casinos yet. I'm usually more intrigued with the scenery to stop.

OP, we live in Louisville and DH's job relocated to Genessee a while back. (He's not at the same job now, but that's a different story.) Anyway, with kids in middle and high school, we did not want to move and they didn't offer him any relocation money anyway. He usually did not take 93 to get to I-70; he took Indiana St then east on 64th (I believe) to Ward Rd. to I-70. 93 is windy (long "I") and windy (sort "I"). That can be problematic in winter. He also made arrangements to work at home 1 day per week so he could attend the kids' school events, make dr's appointments, etc. In good weather it took him the better part of an hour.

An hour sounds about right. I suspect it would be even longer with today's current traffic levels. When I lived in Westminster It took me 45 min from the 104th exit on 36, to DT Denver (during rush hour). Evergreen takes the same amount of time and it's over ten miles further. Go Figure.

Better have a good AWD vehicle. That commute would be brutal.
