Interesting guy, that Mike! Thanks for posting.

Far cry from the younger version whose comments were influenced by Cus D'Amato. That Tyson was humble and never vulgar.

Once Cus died it was downhill from there. Marrying Robin Givens was utterly stupid and led to his depression and subsequent rape conviction. Now if the idiot wouldn't have become a Muslim in prison (he got way too spiritual and soft) he could have come out of prison and gotten back 75-80% of his fighting skills. Cus D'Amato lives another 5-6 years he is the greatest of all time. No doubt in my mind.

I don't think Tyson exer really had a lot of fighting skills when compared to the other boxers of his time, but he sure was a hella puncher. He only needed to hit a guy once to knock him out, and he was so intimidating, that contenders, like Micheal Spinks, took dives so they wouldn't get hit by that knockout blow. Buster Douglas wasn't afraid of Mike's punch and out boxed him. The rest has been history. When he bit Hollyfield's ear, he was truely exposed for what he was.

i think early tyson had a lot of skill - he had pretty good head movement, a really compact motion, he was pretty good at finding his range and getting better

he was working with a good group of trainers, was isolated from the city, fame, money & pressure

and man could he hit

i've recently gone back and rewatched all his fights and he was better than I remember ....... growing up all you can remember is the punch

there was a lot more to it than that and he was so young

Cus did a good job with him and I think Cus could of kept him on the path for a couple more years - maybe tought him a few more tricks while he was willing to learn

i don't think Cus could of kept him off the path forever though - mike thirsted for what don king was selling - he believed his own press clippings and eventually quit working at his craft like he needed to

with his style you knew he wasn't one who would age all that well and he pissed away his prime in prison, with women, drugs and the party ....... it's a shame

It is widely known within boxing circles that Cus D'Amato was gay. There are also rumors to the effect that Bill Cayton, Tyson's former manager was also gay or bi-sexual. There is a lot of speculation that Cus (and perhaps Cayton) may have molested Tyson as a boy. This is why you always hear Tyson referring to f@ggots whenever he erupts in a rage. I believe he was probably diddled by D'Amato and it has affected Tyson all his adult life. This would explain his troubled behavior. There were also rumors to the effect that D'Amato may have molested Floyd Patterson in his youth as well.

Right before he blasted Mitch Green on the street, and caved his head in with one punch,
