Anyone else in the Buffalo area notice a strange smell/taste to the water in the past couple days? I've found it both at home and at UB

I understand it’s from the Erie County Sewer District flushing out their lines resulting in a small overflow. No health hazard though.

If it bothers you so much, buy bottled. We get this once in a while and in Aug. it is worse ( algae in the lake I think). OTOH, our water is substantially better than a good part of the country, according to many studies.

Call the Erie County Water Authority to find out what is bothering you.

Always thought Buffalo water in general tasted like something was in it compared to water in the NYC / Connecticut area. Anyone else notice this?

The water at UB and especially South Campus had a very noticeable flavor to it, not a good one either.

Its Hard water here as opposed to Soft downstate. If you really want odd water, go to upper Michigan -- it is so full of iron, you need a drink of water to wash out your dry mouth when you drink the water. makes Buffalo water taste great.

LOL I bought bottled water at Aldi and on the label it says: "Bottled by 3300 Transit Road, West Seneca, NY 14224. Source: Erie County Municipal Water Supply, Buffalo, NY" So there is no escape

3300 Transit Road, West Seneca, is Mayer Brothers, known for their cider but also bottled water products. West Seneca is in the Erie County Water Authority service area. If the label on the bottled water from Aldi's lists Erie County municipal water as the source that would mean that it's the local incoming tap water presumably then subjected to some kind of further treatment prior to bottling. On their website they tout their spring water, which they say is from protected springs outside this area, and their distilled water, for which they don't mention any source. It may be Erie County Water which has been distilled, but you'd have to ask Mayer Brothers to know for sure.
