I'm trying to find an excellent invoicing or accounting program solution. An application which functions well for me could be an iPhone app or a web-based app. I believed I would be more successful finding something that was free. It appears like every application which advertises as a free app isn't genuinely free. If I can't locate an invoicing program that's free, I am at least looking for a nice looking invoice template that I can use to create invoices for my clients. Please, don't urge invoice templates from applications that cost money, like Microsoft products.

Once I find something great I will make sure to pay it forward in others and in this forum.

Thanks for your help internet!

What sort of volume is involved?

There are very few small businesses that have enough traffic to warrant the costs of "excellence".
Heck, few have enough volume to warrant the cost of mediocre.
Old school paper and ink methods will work just fine.

But if they do have such a large volume they should ask their CPA.
Use something that the CPA already knows and understands.

About a hundred years ago I found that the "My Advanced" suite of apps integrated well with each other
and worked VERY well and did so at a very modest cost.

much depends upon the volume of business/number of invoices you'll be writing each month.

many industries have targeted software to their inventory, payroll, statements and invoice generation and tracking, tied into your overall business accounting software. For examples in automotive repair, there's Mitchell 1 or AllData, among others. Equipment rental outfits have similar targeted software, and so on.

many small businesses use programs as simple as QuickBooks or similar for a modest cost.

in calling upon well over a thousand automotive repair shops ranging from one-man to sizable organizations, I've never seen a "free" program used. And I've seen a lot of computer/software geeks in the auomotive biz who would jump on a "free" program in a heartbeat if it could do the job.

Pay for it. Forget free.
You expect people to pay for your services/products don't you?
Zoho.com is a good start. https://www.zoho.com/crm/zohocrm-pricing.html

While finding a free program seems appealing, invoicing is but one component to accounting for a business. If you just want something that looks pretty, use an MS Word template. If you want something that tracks your receivables, ages them, allows you to apply payments, you need an accounting system, such as QuickBooks of the others that the posters are recommending.
