I will be moving to California by next week from MA - I plan on buying a car, but i heard that cars are cheaper here in MA, is that true? and how much cheaper is it/? I have a friend of mine that will ship a car for $1000 or a bit less than that.

You can look at used car listings in your local newspaper, then look at listings in the San Francisco Chronicle online, and see. We have no idea what car prices are like where you live.

Those autos in MA are rust buckets. CA does not salt the roads, our cars and trucks last decades not years.

NOTE:California law prohibits California residents or businesses from importing and/or registering a new vehicle with less than 7,500 miles at the time of purchase unless it meets or is exempt from California emission standards. If you acquire a 49-State vehicle (manufactured for all states except California) from another state or country, you may not be able to register your vehicle in California.

California sales tax is highest in the nation. Think about adding 9% + to the cost of your car...

It's better to get here and then buy a car because of the emission standards that the state has. I think cars are pretty reasonably priced here. I've only ever bought used cars and I felt I got a good deal. My current vehicle I have had for 12 years and have never had any problems outside of normal wear and tear.

Don't be surprised if California also goes after tax on the purchase price...

Cal is a little bit more for a used car but not worth the $1k shipping. In addition, used cars here are in wayyyy better shape because of the mild weather, Buy it here.
