Hi everyone. So I just moved into a new apartment 6 weeks ago, and I just got my electric bill, it's $932 from june15- July 31, I'm about to have an anxiety attack. I called pg&e and they said my average kw per day was 62, we run the ac at about 73 pretty much all day since we're home during the summer months. Even with the ac running all day, I have never had an electric bill anywhere near this high.. My apartment is a 2 bedroom bout 1000sqft w/ 3 people living in the home. Does anyone have any advice or experience deali g with the same issue? I looked up my pg&e bill from last summer and it was less than $100 and I remember having the ac running all the time then too, so it just doesn't add up.

Has your meter been tapped by someone growing weed?

That happened when I moved into a condo and I called PG&E. They ran a free energy audit, then sent someone out. Turned out someone had (hopefully accidentally) wired all the gas meters in through my apartment, so I'd pay for everyone.

Call PG&E--they can find out what happened.

That seems quite high, but some people do have $200-300 a month bills when running AC all the time and having all electrical appliances. But your monthly is twice that.
PG&E said you were using about 62 Kw a day, multiply that by 45; how does the product of that compare to what your bill says was your total usage?

That's outrageous. I would call PG&E and have them verify the integrity of the meters. That amount is more than my gas/electric bill from PG&E for an entire year!

Are you south facing? Do you have trees shading any portion of your apartment? What were your temps during the heat wave, which was during that period of time? Are you upstairs or downstairs?

Even after answering all of that, do what CB73 said. Call PG&E and have them make sure there are problems.

Please post your findings when you resolve your issue - I am curious to hear what they say.
