I read that if you work in CA as a career you don't have to get any vacation time even unpaid vacation time. If you have worked there for a year, how do you get up to two weeks of vacation time if my employer doesn't allow me any? I mean if not two weeks, how do I get at least a week? How can I get it to be paid vacation time?

OP, you easily could have looked this up yourself. We're not a Google service. If your employer doesn't allow you to take paid time off, then he's required to pay you for your accrued vacation time, when you leave. You can't make him allow you PTO.

In California, employers are not required to provide any paid vacation or paid time off (PTO) to their employees. Employers who choose to offer vacation must follow certain guidelines. California law considers accrued vacation to be a form of wages that have already been earned by the employee. Among other things, this means that accrued vacation cannot expire and must be paid out to an employee upon termination or separation from the employer. The same rules apply to PTO.

For starters, have you inquired with your employer?

My last job, 20 years ago, I worked for a place for five years and we had one week of paid vacation. Had to take it all at the same time. We did not have sick time. For me to get more than a week I had to move on to a larger employer. I now have close to 6 weeks of time off during the year. I can use my vacation time during the year, use it as sick time if I want. I can sell up to 80 hours of time back to my employer.

Either move on or save up a weeks worth of money, and ask for the time off.
