way back in BV (before virus), we were planning to visit the Eureka area, rent for a few months and consider moving there.

Now that restrictions have eased, we are hoping to make the trip, probably camping along the way, then renting a place to for 3-6 months.

We are self isolating/social distancing, and will continue to do so there.

What's open there?
Will we be able to walk on the beaches? Get groceries delivered?
Will people hate us for our Arizona license plates? Will we be heckled for wearing masks, or for not wearing them?

I could not possibly provide you with a list of everything that's open. Why don't you email or call the places you're interested in?

I'm specifically asking about beaches and grocery delivery. For instance, while the beaches in Santa Cruz were "closed", a friend tells me you could still walk on them.

Since we're isolating, we don't plan to go to stores, bars, eat-in restaurants, theaters, etc.

Grocery delivery not a problem. Haven't kept track of beaches. Most here are wearing masks . Good luck.

OP, I'm interested in your question, and your recon trip of the area, too. I hope you'll post a report when you've completed your trip, or even--as you go along, scoping out the different communities.

Would you be bringing your jobs with you, if you move there? Or would you be retiring there? Sounds like you'll be there for the summer, at least, if not into fall as well. Depending on how the weather goes down, you may be there for the fire season farther inland. It does blow smoke into the coastal area, from what I understand. Also, are you aware of the issue with electrical service, during fire season? The service may get turned off by the utility, from time to time. Bring candles, and try to rent a place with a gas stove, so you can at least cook, even when the electricity's off. or, depending on your location, the electrical service may not get turned off. There are neighborhoods in Santa Cruz, that never get their electricity shut off, while others do.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy your trip. You mention beaches, but the redwood forests are the big draw.

Retired, California born and raised, moved out of state and want to come home, at least for the summer to get away from the Tucson heat.

Husband used to work for PG&E, and we're aware of potential electrical shutdowns. Good tip about the gas stove.

We've been to the Eureka area, most recently last summer, but haven't spent more than a day or two at a time. Love the redwoods. Beaches were closed in much of California last month, I'd like to know if we can walk and kayak on them, or just gaze longingly from a distance.

From what I know, there are beaches open in CA. There may be some that are closed off though. What I believe is being discouraged (or resulting in you being asked to leave) is congregating in groups & perhaps sun bathing.
