We live in the SF Bay Area and are considering getting a second home in Central Coast. I love coastal weather but would prefer an area that doesn't get Santa Ana winds. Is the area of SLO/Pismo prone to wind? Such weather makes me feel lousy plus there's the fire danger which keeps getting worse these days.

Monterey Bay, if you can afford it. Santa Cruz, Capitola, Aptos, Seaside, Monterey.

I used to live on the Central Coast and we did indeed get Santa Ana winds during the fall timeframe. I do think its better closer to the coast from that regard, but it is also getting worse with global warming than in years past.

There are no "Santa Ana winds" in the central coast so what exactly are you asking?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_...%20California.

If you are asking about the east to west warm winds, it occurs a few times a year all over coastal California, it's unavoidable.

Santa Ana winds are in So Cal, not on the Central Coast. I went to college in SLO, and winds tend to come from the northwest through Los Osos Valley. Made biking from Foothill to LOVR for shopping a pain.

I've lived near Pismo Beach for 15 years and it seems like its always windy here. That's what keeps the climate mild year round, but the wind does get old after a while.
