Hmmm, looks like I'll be getting another smog test. I looked into the Cash for Clunkers program, but I'm selling my car simply because I never drive it so I won't be buying a new one until I absolutely need it.

Smog check has to be within 90 days & you can't do the cash for clunkers thing unless the car has been registered in California for 2 years.

By law the seller is responsible for making sure the car will smog. If you can't get it smogged then you should register it in California and get a certificate of non operation and sell it as is/ parts car otherwise the buyer can come back at you and make you smog it or refund their money.

Only vehicles built in 1974 or older are exempt from a smog check.

Go and get the car smogged. If it passes smog ok, then you can sell it in California with the Arizona title with no problem.

If it doesn't pass smog, you'll have to decide if you want to fix it, junk it, or sell it out of state.

You might be able to use for a trade in... won't get much for it.

Arizona is not really all that far... why not sell it in Arizona?

smog is good for 90 days and you have to have had the car registered to you- in California for 2 years to participate in cash for clunkers.
