Why would Premier Jean Charest call an election in August 2012, when his mandate doesn't end until late 2013? Doesn't he know his popularity among university students is not very good right now? Shouldn't he gamble to see if his reputation climbs over the next 6-12 months?
He's probably thinking if he calls an election now he may have a better chance of winning another 5yr mandate than if he waits another year and risks being held in even lower regard this time next year,
I think Charest's time is up,he's getting kinda stale, my vote is going to Francois Legault's newly formed Coalition Avenir Quebec. http://coalitionavenirquebec.org/
They're not perfect, and I don't think they'll win since they've never run in an election before, but I can't say I blame you, and they're who I'd vote for to (if I was still allowed).
Not looking forward to the PQ getting back into power, I think too many people have forgotten that PQ times is hard times, since it's been so long.
I'd consider the PQ as an option if it wasnt for the thought that they'd get in to power then decide to call another referendum on Quebec separation. Too much wink wink nudge nudge going on within that party,i dont trust em..

Students are not the majority of the population and polls show the silent majority is with the government on this one. Charest is still in tough with all of the other crap that has happened with his government but this timing might be the lesser evil for him and the only chance he has left.
