^^if you keep telling yourself you're the greatest and talking like no one else in the world has "freedom and democracy" the danger is you begin to believe that.
Steve Mnuchin, secretary of the treasury expressed his dismay at learning countries targeted by Trump's trade war were not constrained in applying tariffs to products other than those Trump had targeted.
This boob thought Canada and others were only allowed to retaliate with tariffs on those items Trump had targeted. They were expecting retaliatory tariffs placed upon only steel and aluminum. Can you imagine their surprise? LOL.
Apparently he was not alone in this incorrect assessment.
This is astounding. Perhaps I shouldn't be so shocked. Trump seems to be left with inept people.

U.S. mean averaged tariffs across the board on all imports = 1.6%
Canada's mean averaged tariffs = .85% Less than half of those tariffs imposed by the U.S.
That's Canada. I think I've said earlier that picking the fight with Canada was misplaced. Meanwhile the average tariffs imposed by China is 3.54% and by Mexico 4.36% so quite an imbalance. Besides, what do "mean averaged" tariffs mean to a specific country?
There is a solution to all this. Join us. Apply for US statehood and be part of the great USA. You already speak the language and enjoy American protection. Canadians have been streaming across the border for employment and prosperity for decades. We are really one family separate by a border -- with the US being the big brother and Canada the little one.

Let's make it official.
I respectfully decline with thanks to my nominator....some guy in a cubicle in St. Petersburg.

No deal. Need the option to make a hefty American wage and come back to the tanking Canadian dollar.

I'm suspecting that where countries may have a sliding scale tariff imposed upon a specific item dependent upon content or some other make-up, they average that tariff then add it to a list of the rest of the tariffs to then average the lot.
