Hi
Does anyone know the answers to the following:

Background
-Canadian female marrying a person from Libya
-Considering moving to Libya

1. Would obtaining Libyan citizenship mean having to revoke Canadian citizenship or no?

2. Could living abroad affect pension and/or disability benefits in any way? Does the Canadian citizen have to meet annual periods of time residing in Canada in order to keep benefits?

Any other advice?

Thanking you in advance.

From a Canadian perspective, you can keep your Canadian citizenship; the Libyans, however, may have a different standard. Perhaps check with the Libyan embassy in Ottawa (613) 230-0919.

I believe the only issue relating to Canada is that if you take up residence in Lybia you will lose your provincial residence and when you return to Canada you will have to re-establish residence. That could mean that you would have to wait 90 days to be covered by medical insurance in Canada.

There are no rules on marrying a Canadian - you can marry whomever you wish.

As far as rules that would prevent you from immigrating, these are the inadmissibility rules:

People who cannot come to Canada (Inadmissibility)

Two possible options are to immigrate as a skilled worker (if applicable)

Immigrating to Canada: Skilled workers and professionals

or your spouse can sponsor you:

Immigrating to Canada: Sponsoring your family
