If you have had a DaVinci robotic prostatectomy and had good results (no incontinence) please share your comments on the procedure and if you are happy with the choice you made to have the surgery. If you recovered from the incontinence, how long did it take to get your control back?

I underwent the da Vinci procedure 3.5 years ago. I'm still pleased with my decision, made in consultation with my medical team. From all indications, the cancer was removed in its entirety. There are continuing consequences, however. One of which is slight incontenence. On balance, it's something I'm content dealing with ... because the cancer has been removed and I believe my quality of live is and will continue to be better in years ahead.

My husband considered da Vinci, but bailed and went with Proton Beam Therapy in 1996. No incontinence or other problems. Very happy!

Regarding my post above, I was horribly sick with viral bronchitis when I wrote it, but the date my husband finished his treatment was in early 2007, not 1996. It has been 5 years. Sorry for the error. But he is very happy with the outcome.

Sorry about the bronchitis, glad about your husband's outcome, and thank you for sharing about this treatment.

Just thought I would share our good news. It's been 5 years since my husband received his Proton Beam Therapy treatment. His PSA levels continue to decrease. He was at 0.2 for the past two years. He had his annual PSA test this week and it came back 0.1.

We are ecstatic to say the least.

To give a little more detail regarding where we started, prior to treatment:

PSA 3.2 (Not considered that high, but it had jumped 1 full point in a year)
Gleason Score from biopsy was 3+4=7
Age 62 at diagnosis

I can't sware to the incontinence, but we know 2 guys that had it done and were very satisfied with the outcome. I do know the older you are, the more likely incontinence will occur and the DaVinci prostatectomy is a better way to go with fewer side effects than the old fashion surgery.
