Whether you are just starting your or your loved one's cancer journey or you are years beyond with a wealth of knowledge, you should check out Imerman's Angels. It is a nonprofit connecting peers to each other based on age, gender, geographic location, and diagnosis in order to facilitate matches between those wanting to give support and those in need of support.
This is a fantastic organization. I am an "angel" waiting to be matched to someone in need - which could be anyone from someone recently diagnosed with Hodgkin's, another young adult with cancer, or a parent or caregiver wanting help and guidance in how to help a loved one.
Finding others with a similar diagnosis can be comforting on both ends.
no...but THANK YOU for being that "angel"...maybe you could be an angel for someone on CD that needs help, guidance...and someone maybe just to talk to about how they're feeling??
Thanks everyone! Please share with people you think might need help. Imerman Angels have made around 2000 matches so far - but there are of course thousands more who could probably use the connection and just don't know it exists! No one should have to go through a battle with cancer without having someone to talk to who has been there. Outside of the breast cancer community and major cities, there are few disease-specific groups to talk through your individual treatment and side effects. I found that those who had Hodgkin's before me were MUCH better resources for dealing with side effects than my doctor (though I of course let my oncologist know about everything that was going on). Please help me make sure that no one feels alone!
SD4020, I am not 100% sure, but I believe that they do. For me, it's sort of my own form of therapy to talk people through the experience though I'm struggling with the survivorship aspect myself.
Me too. I'm on this earth to help others get through this before, during and after. I'll check out the website. Thanks for posting.
The whole miserable experience is tough. I was glad my doctor was direct and to the point with me.
It opened up a lot of perspective to me.
