And a few bullet points before you roll your eyes.

Can't we talk about something more pleasant? http://www.amazon.com/Cant-Talk-abou.../dp/1608198065
-It's a memoir pure and simple, not a how-to manual, no self-help tips
-It's written from an only-child's perspective
-She's a longtime cartoonist at the New Yorker, not an academic/psychologist/etc
-The book is written in "graphic novel" format with cartoon panels mixed with very large text.
-It's short, I finished it on a three hour flight. Seatmates must have thought I was crazy as I alternated between howling with laughter and tearing up.
At the time I read it (published in May 2014), I was about seven years removed from my dad's death (at 91) which had involved several years of progressively more involved caregiving by my wife and me. I don't know how I would have felt reading it if I were in the middle of the process....it could've been one of those "it's funny, yet I cannot laugh" situations.
We're getting close to that point again with my wife's stepmother and, while that situation will be different (step/half relationship with siblings, finances, etc), I have been revisiting the book in search of the many pearls of wisdom hidden inside.
