I have a 6 month old siamese. 5 weeks ago he got an upper respiratory infection. The vet gave him fluids, a vit B12 shot and some antibiotics. After 4.5 days he got terrible diarhea, so the vet said stop giving him the antibiotics. 3 weeks later he had another respiratory infection. Again we gave him fluids, B12 and antibiotics. This time one that is injected and lasts for 2 weeks.

Well its almost been 2 weeks and he is sneezing more and having discharge from his nose (at least this time it is a clear discharge). I can't keep taking him to the Vets, I just can't afford it every 2-3 weeks. Is there anything that we can give him that will help?

We've been giving him Lysine every breakfast and dinner for the last 2 weeks.

Thanks in advance.

Your vet needs to take a sample of the mucuses and send it to a lab for a culture. The lab grows the bacteria in the sample and tries different antibiotics on it to see what it is responsive to.

If you don't want to go back to this vet, get a second opinion somewhere else.

Keep on with the l-lysine. That is for herpes control (not cure) and it also helps boost kitty's immune system.

If your kitten does have herpes, the l-lysine will eventually make a difference for him, but I'd be asking to have the culture done in the mean time.

I think I would also ask for an x ray of the sinuses. Maybe there's a foreign body up there.

Hope your baby feels better soon. Keep us posted.

Thanks for your answer. This morning his nose doesn't seem to be runny. Next time he has the thick yellow mucus I'll get them to do a culture.
