I don't know what these notifications mean or what I am supposed to do with them. I have no idea how to reply to the names I see in a list on that page. Rather then send me messages that I can't reply to or am not sure if you'll get replies from me, I would rather be emailed.
This really belongs in About the Forum but I am going to address it here. Let me say this about getting emails from CD members. If YOU respond to an email from someone on City Data they will have your email address, which they can use to find out your real name, where you live etc.
I have seen someone get mad at a member and it isn't pretty when they start posting addresses and other stuff about you.

Sometimes when I log on I see in the upper righthand corner, under my name, "Notifications" = 1 or 2 etc.
Geeze... I didn't know about that. I wont respond to any email I may get unless I can do so anonymously (no email address shown).
When you click on that box, you will see info about DMs (not emails, safe to reply to) and Friend requests, usually. Anything done via DM is perfectly safe, C-D does not release your info (except if they ever got a court subpoena).

Just to let you know that subscribing to threads doesn't work for me. Does this feature not work with MozillaFireFox? The only choice I have when logged in is Subscribed Forums, not threads.
The Notifications are either direct messages or people who want to befriend you. Nothing to worry about.
