Orion who's 11 recently lost considerable weight due to loose teeth. He had them extracted a couple of weeks ago without any complications, took amoxicillin as prescribed and is eating normally again. He's gained a couple of pounds and is acting normal. He has a few bald spots on the top of his head, he can't possibly be pulling his fur out. I can't whisk him back to the vet because I'm ill now (bad timing sir!)
In all the years I've had cats, and it's many, I've never seen anything like it. At first I thought he'd been scratched by one of the other cats, but there's no wound, just bald spots. I don't know if it's something that's contagious, I'm wondering because he brought home a flea from the vet...dispatched that quickly. I read about ear mites that migrate and they ADORE him. Poor kitty, he's a magnet for vermin it seems. The other cats seem almost immune while Orion's a target. If anyone has an idea to calm my nerves until I can get him to the vet I'd appreciate it.
Is it possible he scratched those spots? I ask because two of our cats have had allergies this summer, and our oldest cat scratches his head and has small bald spots. With my vet's permission, I give them chlortrimeton allergy meds (2 mg for a 12 pound cat, once every 24 hours).
